So yesterday I was listening to a podcast (Sadman Sadik bhaiya's monologue - "Thinking addiction") and he shared an interesting analogy.
Reflecting over something (could be a book, an article, a painting or if you are like me, conversations) is like dunking a biscuit in a cup of tea. If you dunk in for a second and take it out, the tea wouldn't be able to seep inside the biscuit properly. And if you end up dipping it for too long, the part breaks off and sinks in the cup.
So basically, there is an optimal level of thinking. Don't think deeply, and you miss out on the essence, the satisfaction that comes off with that experience. Think too deeply, and you end up spiralling down the rabbit hole (yeah that's more like me).
Overthinking is probably a sign of avoidance I think. A lack of action, an avoidance from taking an initiative. I might be wrong, like every other human. Who knows, I am still learning the ways of my life.
